Critical Warning Signs of Fatty Liver

UNVEILING THE HIDDEN DANGERS

1. Fatigue

Feeling excessively tired or experiencing a lack of energy can be a warning sign of fatty liver. This may be due to the liver's reduced ability to function properly.

2. Abdominal discomfort

People with fatty liver may experience discomfort or pain in the upper right side of the abdomen. This can range from a dull ache to a feeling of fullness or heaviness.

3. Enlarged liver

In some cases, a fatty liver can cause the liver to become enlarged. This can be detected by a healthcare professional during a physical examination or through imaging tests such as an ultrasound or MRI.

4. Elevated liver enzymes

Blood tests may reveal elevated levels of liver enzymes, such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST). These enzymes are released into the bloodstream when the liver is damaged or inflamed.

5. Jaundice

Although less common, severe cases of fatty liver disease can lead to jaundice, characterized by a yellowing of the skin and eyes. Jaundice occurs when there is an accumulation of bilirubin, a yellow pigment, in the body.

6. Loss of appetite

Fatty liver can cause a decrease in appetite or feelings of nausea. This may result in unintended weight loss or difficulty maintaining a healthy weight.

7. Weakness

Generalized weakness or a feeling of weakness in the muscles can be associated with fatty liver disease. This can be a result of the liver's impaired ability to store and release glycogen, a source of energy.

8. Spider veins

Fatty liver can sometimes cause the appearance of spider veins, which are small blood vessels that appear close to the skin's surface. These veins may appear as a network of thin, reddish, or purplish lines.

9. Fluid retention

Advanced stages of fatty liver disease can lead to fluid retention in the abdomen, a condition known as ascites. This can cause abdominal swelling, discomfort, and a bloated feeling.

10. Mental confusion

In severe cases of fatty liver disease, a condition called hepatic encephalopathy can develop. This can cause mental confusion, difficulty concentrating, and changes in behavior or personality.
