Deadly Shooting at Dallas Suburb Outlet Mall Leaves Nine Dead and Seven Injured
On Saturday, May 7th, 2023, a shooting took place at an outlet mall in a Dallas suburb, resulting in nine fatalities and seven injuries.
The shooting occurred at Allen Premium Outlets, and the gunman acted alone according to police chief Brian Harvey.
An officer from the Allen Police Department heard gunshots while out on an unrelated call and located and "neutralized" the shooter.
Seven people, including the shooter, were pronounced dead on the scene, while nine people were transported to area hospitals.
Two of the nine hospitalized people have since died, three are in critical condition, and four are in stable condition.
Medical City Healthcare, a Dallas-area hospital system, is treating eight people between the ages of 5 and 61.
A dashcam video posted on social media appears to show the shooter exiting a vehicle on the driver's side before opening fire in front of the outlet mall.
The shooting prompted a multi-agency response to secure the mall, and hundreds of people were evacuated from the area.
A vigil is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Sunday at Cottonwood Creek Church in the city of Allen to honor the victims of the shooting.
