Live-Action Reimagining of Disney’s ‘Moana’

Dwayne Johnson announced a live-action reimagining of Disney's Moana is in development.

The film will be produced by Seven Bucks Productions and Flynn Picture Co, with Auli‘i Cravalho and Scott Sheldon as executive producers.

Jared Bush, who wrote the screenplay for the 2016 animated Moana, will also be involved in the production.

The new film will celebrate Pacific Islander culture and traditions through the eyes of a young woman.

Johnson will return to the fictional world to set sail with Moana, inspired by the mana and spirit of his late grandfather.

The film will join a successful lineup of Disney live-action adaptations, including Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin.

The original Moana film grossed nearly $644 million at the global box office.

Moana's 2016 soundtrack was critically acclaimed, with Lin-Manuel Miranda winning a Grammy for "How Far I'll Go."

The live-action Moana reimagining is still in early development.
