Britney Spears and her husband Sam Asghari have decided to part ways after being married for 14 months. Notably, Variety has revealed that the pop star is assembling a formidable team of Hollywood lawyers as she prepares for the divorce proceedings.
Laura Wasser, a renowned divorce attorney for celebrities, has been retained by Spears for her legal representation. Furthermore, Mathew Rosengart, a prominent attorney who played a crucial role in freeing Spears from her conservatorship and her father’s control, will continue to support her in this matter.
Responses to Variety’s inquiries for comments from Wasser and Rosengart are currently awaited. Sam Asghari, a trainer, model, and actor, who proposed to Spears in September 2021 and married her in June 2022, has not provided a comment on the separation as well.
It’s noteworthy that when Spears got engaged to Asghari, she was still under a conservatorship. However, with Rosengart’s efforts, the conservatorship was suspended, paving the way for her freedom. During her testimony in June 2021, Spears expressed her desire to marry Asghari and have children, but claimed she lacked permission due to the control her conservators, including her father, held over her life.
Legal experts affirmed that under the conservatorship, Spears couldn’t independently enter agreements, including marriage. The termination of her conservatorship in December 2021 restored her authority to execute documents, including marriage licenses. This enabled the couple to wed in an intimate ceremony at Spears’ residence in California in 2022.
Although this was Spears’ third marriage, her former husband, Kevin Federline, is the father of her two teenage sons. In 2022, before her marriage to Asghari, Spears announced a pregnancy but later revealed the loss. As for her professional life, Spears has released new music and is set to publish a memoir later this year.
As of now, neither Spears nor Asghari have publicly commented on their separation.
