The United Arab Emirates (UAE) reported a series of aerial threats on Monday, stating that multiple missiles were launched from Iran toward its territory. According to the UAE’s Defense Ministry, three cruise missiles were successfully intercepted, while another fell into the sea. Residents heard loud explosions, which officials confirmed were caused by air defense systems engaging the incoming threats.
Shortly after the initial incident, authorities warned of another ongoing missile and drone attack, indicating a rapidly escalating situation. A separate report from Fujairah confirmed that a drone strike hit a fuel storage facility, triggering a fire. Additionally, maritime authorities in the United Kingdom received alerts about fires on two cargo vessels off the UAE coast, though the exact causes remain unclear.
Iran has not officially taken responsibility for these incidents. However, the developments are significant as they mark the first reported attack on a Gulf nation since a ceasefire was established nearly a month ago.
The situation follows a U.S. initiative, announced by President Donald Trump, to escort ships safely through the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. military officials stated that recent Iranian missile and drone launches targeting naval and commercial vessels were intercepted, and no American ships were damaged.
